Gas is several times cheaper than electricity in much of the EU. This is mainly due to differences in taxes and levies.

To ensure consumers see and feel the savings from switching to a heat pump, this disparity needs fixing.

The European Commission is urging EU governments to bring taxes on electricity down to the same level as those on gas, but there’s a way to go.

Tackling the price of electricity both for homes and industry – and ensuring stable policies and the implementation of agreed EU plans and laws – are key to boosting heat pumps.

It’s not a supply issue: Europe has capacity to produce enough heat pumps. Manufacturers have invested and opened new factories.

Boosting heat pump demand starts with making the switch to clean heating and cooling more affordable for all Europeans.
