WaterWarmth – Assessing the (pre-)feasibility of an aquathermal energy project: the do’s and don’ts of feasibility studies

03 June 2026
14:00-11:45

Description

Are you interested in aquathermal energy but unsure how to evaluate its feasibility for your project? The WaterWarmth consortium has developed a clear and structured methodology for conducting pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, providing stakeholders with the insights needed to make well-informed investment decisions. Discover the four key factors that determine the success of an aquathermal energy project and learn how to assess them effectively.

Join us for this webinar on the feasibility of Aquathermal Energy (AE)! Whether you’re curious about this technology or already considering it for your projects, this is your chance to discover how AE can support the transition to sustainable heating and cooling.

Who should attend?

  • Energy cooperatives
  • Project developers and owners
  • Consultancy and study agencies
  • Urban and spatial planners
  • Municipalities and local governments
  • Stakeholders interested in advancing sustainable energy solutions through aquathermal energy
  • Anyone exploring the transition to renewable heating and cooling in the built environment

Agenda

  • 14:00 – Introduction
  • 14:05 – The 4 key factors of aquathermal energy
  • 14:15 – The methodology for assessing the potential of aquathermal energy
  • 14:35 – Q&A session

About the WaterWarmth Project

The WaterWarmth project aims to unlock the potential of Aquathermal Energy (AE) in the North Sea Region. AE captures heat from water to provide sustainable heating and cooling. Despite its promise, AE remains underused due to challenges such as high transition costs, low fossil fuel prices, and system integration barriers.

By developing practical tools like the Quickscan and supporting local energy communities with real-life pilots, WaterWarmth helps bridge the gap from curiosity to implementation. The project seeks to create replicable solutions and highlight the role of aquathermal energy in Europe’s clean energy transition.
