Electrifying heating and beyond: Europe’s energy security strategy

05 May 2026
12:30-14:00
European Parliament - Members’ Salon I Rue Wiertz 60, 1047 Bruxelles

DESCRIPTION

Europe’s geopolitical context highlights the need to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and strengthen energy security.

Electrification is a key part of the solution.

This lunch debate will explore how electrification – and in particular heat pumps – can support Europe’s autonomy, energy security and affordability. It will also address a central question: how quickly Europe can scale up the technologies and value chains needed to deliver.

The discussion will bring together policymakers, industry and experts to:

  • frame electrification within Europe’s energy security challenges
  • provide insights on global energy trends
  • explore the EU policy direction needed to accelerate deployment
  • highlight industry readiness to scale up solutions

The message is clear: electrification is at the core of Europe’s long-term energy security strategy. Heat pumps are a concrete and scalable solution. The technology is available, industrial capacity exists, and deployment can accelerate with the right policy framework.
