Every year, the EU Commission looks at the EU’s progress towards its energy and climate goals in a report called ‘State of the Energy Union’.
The 2025 edition, published last week, focuses on energy affordability, competitiveness and energy security — all key to boosting heat pumps in Europe.
In EHPA’s view, a key way to boost the affordability of heat pumps and clean solutions which help competitiveness and energy security further is by governments shifting taxes off the electricity bill. These taxes and levies are often several times higher than those on gas, which makes no sense when the EU wants and needs to electrify more.
What’s more, while the report says countries are on track for their 2030 climate targets, EHPA calls for this to be strengthened through the timely implementation of the European Green Deal measures into national law. This would provide clear and stable policies which will stimulate demand for heat pumps and encourage investments in the sector.
