Heat Pump Technologies: EHPA leads key discussions on the EU heat pump market

On 2-3 April 2025, Milan will host Heat Pump Technologies, the first international exhibition and conference dedicated to heat pumps and related technologies enabling the energy transition. Organised by RX Italy at Allianz MiCo, this event brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore decarbonization strategies, market trends, and cutting-edge solutions.

EHPA, as a co-organiser of the conference, will lead a dedicated session on Day 2 focusing on the European heat pump market. This session will discuss market developments, policy dynamics, and future prospects, with insights into initiatives such as the Clean Industrial Deal and the Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act.

Title: Heat pumps for a competitive Europe: driving clean tech and industrial growth

Summary:

This session will focus on the role of heat pumps for Europe’s comphetitiveness. We’ll start by exploring how heat pumps are key to achieving Europe’s transition to a clean, secure, and competitive energy system, with a particular focus on the Clean Industrial Deal and its impact on the sector. 60 – 73% of heat pumps installed in Europe are manufactured in Europe, they are therefore a key clean technology for local jobs and economic growth. However, at the moment market sales are going down and demand is needed. Is the Clean Industrial Deal doing enough to retain and support the growth of this strategic clean tech sector? The second part will take a closer look at industrial heat pumps, discussing this technology as the low hanging fruit to decarbonise Europe’s industry. Finally, we’ll wrap up by highlighting the importance of harmonised EU certification standards for heat pumps, with expert insights into current standards and future opportunities.

Watt's next webinar: the shift to an electric and efficient net zero industry

Industrial heat remains a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for two-thirds of industrial energy demand.  Electrifying heat through clean and efficient technologies such as heat pumps and the Organic Rankine Cycle - a means of converting low-temperature heat into electricity through an organic fluid - is critical for reducing emissions and improving  Europe's energy security.
